Precast elements at a factory are produced under controlled ambient conditions to ensure highest levels of quality in desired shapes, sizes and textures along with their applicable tolerances. The elements such produced exhibit high quality and uniformity. It also minimizes the need for continuous inspections and common errors discovered at a construction site saving valuable project time and money.

  • Durability

    Precast concrete is highly resistant to impact, corrosion, weathering, abrasion and other ravages of time, which reduces maintenance and operating costs. A low water/cement ratio combined with good compaction and curing in a controlled factory environment ensures a dense, highly durable concrete. Several scientific studies have demonstrated that precast concrete products can provide a service life in excess of 100 years. For severe service conditions, additional design options are available which can further extend the life of precast concrete products.

    Precast concrete increases efficiency because weather is not a factor in production timelines. In addition, weather conditions at the job site do not significantly affect the schedule. This is because it requires less time to install precast compared with other traditional construction methods. Precast concrete can be easily installed on demand and immediately backfilled eliminating any need to wait for it to cure.

    Generally structural material may deteriorate, experience creep and stress relaxation, lose strength and/or deflect over time. The load bearing capacity of precast concrete is derived from its own structural qualities and does not rely on the strength or quality of the surrounding backfill materials. The strength of precast concrete gradually increases over time.

    Precast concrete’s thermal efficient ability to store energy and dampen the effect of temperature change on heating and cooling systems will result in considerable amount of energy savings over the long term. Also, it is nontoxic and environmentally safe. Buried throughout the world, precast concrete products help convey water without contributing to poor water quality.

  • Safety

    Precast concrete is non-combustible with built-in fire resistance capability. It creates a safe envelope that helps protect people, equipment and the building itself. It does not lose its structural capacity as quickly as steel, which is a significant consideration as witnessed in horrific incidents like 9/11. Other structural materials besides concrete and steel are flammable and/or do not perform well at elevated temperatures.

  • Aesthetics

    Precast concrete provides the designer with an unlimited architectural vocabulary of expression. It is incredibly responsive to the designer’s needs, as it can be shaped in a cost-effective manner. Design flexibility is possible in both colour and texture by varying aggregate and matrix colours, size of aggregates, finishing processes and depth of exposure.

  • Weather Resistance

    Precast concrete is well suited for exposure to all types of weather conditions. In regions experiencing regular freeze-thaw cycles, the concrete mix can be designed to properly withstand damage.

  • Is precast concrete durable?

    Concrete lasts for decades. Egyptian and Romans used an ancient form of concrete for buildings and structures that still exist today. Concrete is used where the structural stability has to be maintained for long periods. Effective design detailing helps to lengthen the life of a concrete building; precast manufacturers can offer guidance on designing for durability. Current standards lay out service periods for buildings of up to 75 or more years. Precast concrete sustains this duration easily.

  • How safe is precast concrete against fire?

    The components of concrete – cement (limestone, clay and gypsum) and aggregate materials – are chemically inert and therefore virtually non-combustible. It's also incredibly resistant to fire, which makes it a safe bet for any kind of construction. Concrete does not emit any toxic fumes when exposed to fire. Not only is the structural stability maintained for longer periods, but concrete construction prevents the spread of the fire from one building to another.
